There are a number of conditions which would cause you to bruise easily. The clotting mechanism is actually quite complex and basically involves lots of diferent clotting facotrs acting upon each other and circulating blood cells to create a "plug" of cells. One of the most famous is haemophilia A, which is the lack of factor VIII, which is a condition which is inherited from your parents. However, because of the genetics, only males actually suffer from the condition, and since you're female we can discount this possibility. Other similar conditions caused by a lack of certain clotting factors also exist, including a lack of von Willebrand factor, which can affect both sexes and affects about 1% of the population. Conditions affecting your liver can also cause problems with clotting, because the liver produces many of the factors in the clotting process. Certain forms of anaemia also may cause you to bruise more easily because the bone marrow may not produce enough platelets, a type of blood cell which can stick together to help form plugs to stem bleeding. Certain drugs, such as aspirin may also cause you to bleed more. This is far from an exhaustive list of causes, but includes some of the more common ones. I would advise going to see a doctor in person, who would have access to your medical notes and can ask a history from you to investigate the causes. Most of the causes are easily investigated with a simple blood test, and it's better to know so that any action can be taken if necessary.

For the past few months I have bruising on my face and neck even after just having a wash. These are appearing with minimal pressure. Do I need to see my GP. I was diagnosed 6 years ago with breast cancer.
