  • That depends on the exact nature of the "agreement." If you have a contract that says you get a raise every six months, then you can sue if you don't get the raise. However, unless you have a union job, I have never heard of a company that guarantees raises. Many companies conduct reviews every six months and will give merit based raises, but this does not guarantee you a raise. So the short answer is that you would have to have a contract in writing that guarantees a raise every six months if you want to win a lawsuit.
  • Well, re-read the contract. In my company we MAY receive a pay-raise IF we meet certain criteria. Job satisfaction is one of them. We set goals at the beginning of each year, and get marked on successful completion of those goals. So if it is your opinion that you did what was asked, get clarification on why you were ranked unsatisfactory. They should give you a reason for that. I wouldn't sue in these times but try a more diplomatic approach. Dependent on where you are based, it may be wise to consult with your local Office of Fair Trade.
