Yes. First we did some research on how the market would play out. We decided what services to offer besides lawn mowing, examples...snow removal, fertilizing, dog feces pick up, irrigation, landscaping, hard scaping. Any way, it's very easy. Just do your homework.

My husband and I both are self employed. He runs an aquarium maintenance company. It wasn't as much a decision as it was something that evolved on it's own. He had a pet store and through the pet store, he serviced. When he sold the pet store, phone calls kept coming in. He kept the business number and kept it listed in the Yellow Pages. As for me, I have a home building company. My parents left me money when they died. I was approached to buy a lot and build a house. At first I was against it. But I did it anyway. Since then I've built and remodeled many homes. I enjoy it immensensely.

Yes. I own and operate two small businesses from my home. I teach a mix of self defense & health sciences, and I write software which I sell as shareware. I learned very early that no matter how much an employer pays you, they can not pay you all that you are worth, since they need to make a profit, and need employees that will work for less than they are worth to achieve it ... so the logical thing is to start your own business and work for yourself (and possibly exploit some employees yourself). Also, I read some tax laws and noticed how great the deductions can be if you run a small business from your home.
