From the saddle of an 18 speed mountain bike -- thumbing your nose at the gas stations and refineries as you cruise past... or riding in quiet dignity like a modern day two-wheeled Gandhi.

In the short term, our economy and livelihoods are so petroleum-dependent that 'waging war' on oil companies is borderline oxymoronic. In the longer term, I think we need to educate ourselves more fully about our dependence and about just how much the petroleum business has not only dominated our economic lives, but our political lives as well. Two books I would recommend as starting points are Connections by James Burke . . http://www.amazon.com/Connections-James-Burke/dp/0743299558/ . . and Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins . . http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Economic-Hit-John-Perkins/dp/0452287081/

do not use their products as much as possible. their end days are not far off though. the oil based economy is entering its last years and with the downfall of the oil based economy down will go the corporations with it.

Zero dependence on oil is a laudable goal, but it has to begin somewhere. =) I use my old bike when and where possible. I do the most I can do as a single human being, through minimal use of a car, minimal waste production, and recycling. But a cold-turkey solution isn't feasible for most of us, unless we live within walking distance of our job.
