For the poor of the world, it's like a dream come true. Everyone getting fed, everyone getting medical, it is the carrot on the stick misleading people to be duped into a dictatorship. We are seeing it now in some South American countries... Very good point Unit.

I think most Americans do, but many are ignorant to the history of Socialism and Communism, and the modern day communist has found a way to blend their doctrine into specific issues and then get a group fired up. For example, why are the environmentalists and the Gay movement bonded together with other leftist causes? They are two seperate issues, yet the leaders of these movements try very hard to blend them all into one radical cause. Anyway, my main point is that Americans are generally favorable to capitalism, I hope, and we won't turn into Bolsheviks yet, even though the mainstream media is trying to help it along.

Umm, many European countries have a thriving Socialist system, complete with its own party and everything. I'm not saying a pure Socialist or Communist system is going to be best, but it's a bad idea to blow off socialism or communism entirely. We incorporate many socialist/communist ideas in our government today, such as social security, public education, public transportation, even the road systems, etc... all things funded by taxpayer money to the general public free of charge. If pure capitalism had its way, we'd all be scrabbling to build those things ourselves. However, capitalism has its multitude of benefits as well, such as increased work reaps increased rewards--therefore, people have an incentive to work. A combination is best, radicalism has a tendency of being blind and out of hand.

We've never tried it. How would we know better?

Actually, no type of government works in it's absolute form. We today, are a mix of a socialistic/capitalistic society. We work as a mix because if we did not we would not be able to function. And some people do not understand with Communism, it works a lot better on paper than it ever will in real life. When they don't take that into consideration, they tend to make a mess of things.

Socialism is misunderstood and the most popular form of government on earth.More countries are socialist, and like it,then any other form of government. One should look more deeply into the governmental systems, without preconceived ideas, and misinformation, before placing judgement on what they don't fully understand.Anyway socialism is not communism or has anyting to do with communism,it is a democratic system of government.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people from your country automatically equate Socialism with Communism. You really must be among the most politically naive people on the planet.

Communism can work. its just when we look at history what we see isn;t actual communism. its dictatorship. in Chile they elected a communist leader who "misteriously" died and got replaced by a murderer. its got the words CIA written all over it. the american government is so scared of communism it will do anything to stop it. did Che Gueverra actually pose a threat before he was assasinated???

Plenty of people still believe that unbridled capitalism is a good idea, contrary to several hundred years of evidence to the contrary. I think communism would be a worthy experiment and somebody should try it again, since it has never been done (totalitarianism and bolshevism are not communism)
-
communism can work and work very very well IF greed and power are not allowed to take hold .... its the same as capitalism it can work very very well IF greed and power are not allowed to take hold ..oh sorry but it has ...look at the U.S. for example ...the people come last and the almighty dollar comes a long way first ...the same as what happened to communism

Everything fails eventually. So will all our current civilizations.

Go ask the party in China how well communism works. You'll get a far different viewpoint and if you lived there you might end up in a slave labor camp. If things continue as they are now you'll likely end up in that system anyway.

Well, as H.L. Mencken once observed: "The urge to save humanity is always a false front for the urge to rule it." We Americans forget this at our own peril. Our unprecedented success has bred unprecedented complacency. The Communists know this, and act accordingly. Those who misguidedly think communism or socialism "can work" are examples of Lenin's "useful idiots."
