I must be wrong because I've always thought it was maroon but, according to Angel and firebrand it's burgundy. Perhaps I'm just a bit more down-market. Whether maroon or burgundy, it says Honi soit qui mal y pense.

I always thought it was maroon, but other answers say it's burgundy. I don't see why the colour of EU passports was picked from a French wine, so I'm still going to say maroon.
