  • Yes; it was an awful TV programme when I was a kid. I hated the "Good old days!"
  • Yes, but it was back in the day ;-)
  • I've heard tales! *
  • I think that the period of American history between the end of WW II (1945) to approximately 1970 was a unique period that we are unlikely to see again in our lifetimes. During that period, it was possible for a relatively uneducated US citizen to get a high-paying job such that he/she could own a home/raise a family on the sole income provided by that job. Furthermore, even if he/she lost that job, it was relatively easy to replace it with another similar job. This situation was enabled by a combination of lack of competition from non-US countries, a high percentage of the labor force being unionized, and social stigmas that limited the greed of the capitalist elite. So, compared to the post-1970 world, the period from about 1945 to 1970 was the "good old days".
  • Only in the mind. In truth the Good Old Days were never as good as we make them out to be. it's just selective memory.
  • Exactly how far back? And, no. I think that we tend to romanticize the past. I believe that society is in a very bad state and there have been better times, however, things were not as rosy as we like to believe.
  • In 1970 I got married and we had a baby. I was going to college full-time and had a part-time job at a local high school and brought home $25.00 a week. We lived in a little trailer in the married student area. I was the sole source of income. Those were probably the best times of my life. My wife and I are still happily married and I think those early years actually made us love each other more. BTW, I got the best grades I ever got in college. I had a baby daughter to provide for and it made me focus. Those were my "good old days" and I wouldn't trade them for a million bucks.
  • The past as we know it is only part of your mind. You do not know whether you existed a moment ago, or two moments ago, or whether you will even continue to exist beyond this point. All you know is that you exist now, and all else could be an invention. So we can never know if the good old days really existed or not.
  • I heard it was when you didn't have to lock your doors or windows...
