This is a great question. My answer is that if you don't wake up before you hit, you're probably not sleeping and it's the real thing. Yes, then you most likely will die. But if I was actually dreaming it, I don't even see how I wouldn't wake up. My dreams are based on things that I've already experienced (like getting ran over). I know how it feels, so I believe that (and i do have dreams of getting ran over) senses and feelings in the dreams are created through past experiences. So falling from a great height and hitting the ground during a dream, is extremely rare or impossible. Because you've never felt death from falling from a great height.

If you have a dream that you are having sex with your wife and you don't pull out before you wake up will she get pregnant?

I love this question. If you wake up dead, then there's your answer. If you did die, how would you ever know you've hit the bottom after falling?

i have had dreams of falling, and once i didnt wake up till my father shook me. these dreams happend pretty often when i was around 10. i slept in the top bunk ok a bunk bed. about 2-3 times a week i would end up rolling off the bed in my sleep, and have a falling dream. i woke up every time i hit the floor, except for once. i did have a bloody nose and a cut finger this time when i woke to my father shaking me on the floor. we lived in a 2 story house at the time, and he had heard the thump from me falling off the bed quite a few times before, so he was up the stairs and in my room in no more than 1 minute. cant really explain the cut on the finger, but the bloody nose could have come from the dresser near my bed or landing on the floor in the right way.i dont remember anything from the time of hitting the ground till my dad shook me. i could have recieved a minor concussion from hitting the floor or dresser, but i didnt have any bruising pains or lumps on my head.

I sometimes have dreams like that. Once, I dreamt that I was in a shopping centre when a guy pulled up a gun and shot me. I only woke up when my dad shook me to wake me up. When I looked at my shoulder (Where I was shot in my dream). There was blood. I almost had a heart attack.

No it's not true. But we have no way of proving it.

I have dreamt a few times of falling. Most times I wake up before hitting the bottom. But sometimes I haven't and have hit the bottom. No. You won't die! I've also dreamed of drowning. I didn't die. It's just an old wives tale IMHO.
-
I think you might just wake up with more of a start. I dreamed, as a child, that I was laying on my belly by a pond with my head in the pond. I was drowning, but I could not pick up my head. Nor could I wake up ... No until my father shook me very very hard. My pillow had fallen behind the bed onto the night light and was smoldering from a low level fire. I was drowning from smoke inhalation and would have died if my parents had not smelled the smoke.

I don't think people who die in their sleep do so because they are having this dream, or having this dream right before they die. I've died in my own dreams before as well.

this is actually an interestion question - people dont realise it but the mind is one of the strongest things ever created - if youve ever woke up gasping for air after having one of those dreams i think its safe to say that your mind was telling you if you dont wake up youll die ! i honestly believe its possible but because of the other comments you got i think you should try looking up something on the internet called astral projection to get an idea of just how strong the human mind really is !

Yes, it's completely true. We know this from the accounts of all those people it happened to.

This is a classic Urban legend that was taken from the script from a movie. The 1984 Movie Dreamscape. There is no truth to this what-so-ever. I tested this myself and proved it to be false. What happens while your dreaming does not and will not effect your sleeping body. Our dreams are induced by our minds sorting through information. The dreams are a distraction and our minds way of entertaining us. Nightmares may effect your heart-rate but this will only cause you to wake up in a panic but nothing more. If you happen to have a weak heart sure you could die but no case has ever been recorded as a nightmare of any sort causing the death of anyone.
-
No, because your mental state when you dream is totally irrelevant to your physical state as a body, so falling in your head does nothing to your physical state, except maybe make you panic.
-
No, I have fallen, in my dreams....and landed, in pain and lived! lol

I never died and I have jumped of a hundred buildings and mountains maybe even more. I even died in my dreams but woke up completely alive :P
