Who says that he wasn't s good writer? So if he wasn't a good writer then how come soo many people have heard of his books and his stories have been condensed to be put on the big screen?

He may not be the most technically advanced writer ever but he could tell a good story and his use of imagery is almost unsurpassed. There is more to great writing than technical ability. Oh, on a different note, there is now a photography category. http://www.answerbag.com/c_view/4927

I can't dispute your opinion as I've never read anything by Tolkein. You may find food for thought on this site: http://www.tolkeinsociety.org/ ;-)

Tolkien (i before e ;) was a master of linguistics and lore. While he's a little verbose, and I don't personally care for his inclusion of songs in his books (no doubt from his love of poetry), I think he's a great writer nonetheless. I do think your statement would be a dead-on description of J. K. Rowling, however. :) http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/352475

He was certainly a better writer than the idiots they hired for the film adaptions. "Oh, Sam!" "Mr Frodo!" If he wasn't such a good writer, then I wouldn't have enjoyed reading the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit so much.
