I was more worried about that back in the 1960s, when the arms race started. Now it seems a new arms race is developing with the addition of several other countries involved. I would wonder why any nation would use those weapons when the danger of mutual destruction is so high. 10/7/23

No. Russia is well-aware that its military - including its nuclear arsenal - cannot compare with that of the U.S., let alone NATO. *** In addition we have anti-missile systems that (apparently) are extremely effective against ICBMs. *** Russia nuking the U.S. would be suicidal for them, and they know it.

11stevo73 wake up.weren't the Challenger 2 tanks supposed to be world leaders? The Russians destroyed them inside of 5 minuates. You're thinking is from 30 years ago. -
www.bible-reviews.com Ummm...first: that's not US military tech. Second: no, they're not supposed to be "world leaders". Admittedly the Challenger is usually in the top ten list...but it's usually at the bottom of that top ten list. The UK is the only NATO nation that uses them. The first production C2s rolled out in '94. They're well past their best used by date. Third: tanks don't stop nukes, and aren't meant to do so.

Everyone saying it would be impossible probably doesn't truly understand just how close we came to nuclear war in the 60's. All it takes is one little misunderstanding to come at just the right (or more correctly, wrong) moment. Even so, I believe that the threat of a nuclear attack from elsewhere is far more likely. Remember that, when the USSR dissolved, many nuclear bombs disappeared. Most of those are likely in places far less stable than Russia. Also, North Korea is way more out-of-control and they have nuclear bombs and ICBMs. Would they be able to hit us before we'd shoot the missile down? Probably not, but we do tend to overestimate our defenses, too.
