Generally speaking, there's no difference, health-wise, especially with what we might call "basic ingredients". Ready-to-cook meals, especially frozen meals, and frozen meat, are often an exception. (There, the name brand is often healthier.) Compare nutritional info online before shopping. Walmart gives online nutrition info on everything they sell, and I suppose most other grocery stores do the same.

Oh yeah, what if I want a little iron in my diet? They don't have nutritional information on irons at WalMart! lol.

In the long run I'd say generic foods are better for you since they help you keep more of your money to use on better health. Then again, if you blow it on booze or drugs it may be worse for your health. Brand names cost more and may taste better depending on the product, but comparing labels is the best way to learn about the nutritional differences. You can also ask your computer to compare two items. You might get lucky and get the answer you're looking for.

A woman I know worked for decades in retail. She told me generic and brand names are the same product. What ever that product is.
