it only depend on how big is the repair. my car is more important than the money. but if it is a small dent, i'd keep the money.

No you are not obligated to have the repairs made :)

Your not obligated to repair it. Except if the company that pays you is your insurance company, and if you have a lien holder on your veh.. They cant legally pay just you. If would either have to go to you & to the lienholder, to you & to a shop. Now if your the clmt, or party that got hit, your dont have to repair it, its called a cash out.. Insurance companies are all to familiar with this. Means they agree on an amt to pay you, and just send the check right to you, they know most likely you wont fix the veh, but they dont care they paid what they owed. Now if your the insured with them, and ever get in another accident,in that area that was hit before, good luck getting full damages paid unless you can prove you fixed it. They will take off prior damage, if that was to ever happen. Also if your the insured and opted to have pmt made directly to you for damages, or as i call it a cash out, if the amt of the check is a certain amt, they may talk to your agent about removing your comp & coll coverage for awhile... If your the clmt again they can pay you out right and again they dont care, cuz they paid what they owed...
