I was twelve if I remember right...in math class, and they wouldn't tell us what was going on. All they said was that something really bad happened, that lots of people died, and that it wouldn't matter if they told us because we would all know what was going on by the end of the day anyway. I think they told us about an hour later, however...

I was 19 and at work at a bank. Since it was a federal building (in Miami) we had to close immediately and evactuate. Even though I kept hearing all the news on the radio on my way home, nothing could prepare me for what I was about to see on TV. It was so difficult to see everything that was happening.
-
Now that is some hard math - I am 52 now, so that is 52 minus whatever year it was = the number you are looking for.

I was 26 lying on my futon in my studio apartment in San Francisco, half asleep. At that time, I liked to fall asleep listening to public radio. I was barely awake, when I heard the words "plane crash" and "building." When I began to come out of my sleep, I could hear Carl Kasell, I think it was, say something about a Cesna or other small plane crashing into the World Trade Center. A really bad feeling came over me. I got up and turned on the TV. You know the rest.
-
I was 12, in a geography class. Our entire school went down to the locker room where we had a TV and watched the entire thing. Thhat was the moment I started looking at life and the people around me in a whole new light. I will never forget that day; it changed my life...Literally.

I was 9 or 10, in fourth grade. Everyone was dismissed early that day.

Old enough to know it wasn't a hijacking... NBC reported the towers collapsing 23 minutes before it actually happened. I believe it was an attempt pulled by the bush administration. No one can fly a plane that steadily into a building without freaking out, think about it for a sec. Oh, and I was eight years old when it happened.
