  • It is illegal in most places, so they would probably be imprisoned. Most sea ports have signs that read no trespassing or private area.
  • If a stowaway is found aboard a vessel the vessel is responsible for ensuring they return to their country. As they left their country illegally (without clearing customs, etc.), they won't be able to fly back or go back on another vessel. They become a resident on board the vessel, more or less. It's good if they'll work for their food, but if not, you still have to feed them. When you go into a foreign country, or your flag nation, all kinds of problems come up with customs. The stowaway isn't on the customs paperwork, no passport, etc. It'd be best just to lock them up somewhere to avoid the hassle and hefty fines that would result. Then, when you leave port, you can let them back out again. Repeat as necessary, until you return to their country and can turn them over to the proper authorities. Most would rather avoid that any way possible. (There's a reason they stowed away.)
