  • You don't wait for an emergency to use them. You eat them on a regular basis and replace them. FIFO (first in first out) just like any other supplies.

      Does this cause you to typically eat less fresh foods? Or do you cycle by expiry date?
  • Expounding on Linda's suggestion, I would suggest: that you do need to eat the supplies, or donate them, before they expire. You need not do so "regularly", but (for example) a few months before the expiration date you need to either eat or donate the soon-to-expire food and replace it with "fresh". Other than that you shouldn't use your emergency supplies ***unless you have no other healthy food available***. Emergency supplies are intended for times when there is NO other healthy food available.
