  • THe person my have reported because their deductible might be lower than the cost of repair, especially if they have really good insurance and a very small deductible. I'm not sure how it would work with your insurance company since the accident did not occur with your car. It would be the same as a pedestrian who tripped and fell against a car and did some damage, no sane insurance company would fulfill the claim if they were only his auto insurance company.
