Hi - I'm currently working at a restaurant in California and had a question about the state's liquor laws. A few servers and I were talking about serving alcohol to a table or party that had both legal adults and minors. Some servers say that they've heard alcohol cannot be served if a single minor is present at a table with other adults while other servers say it's okay, as long as it's only the adults who are drinking. Ex: if a party of 4 ordered drinks, but only 3 of the 4 are adults, can alcohol still be served? Or if 2 out of 4 were adults & the other 2 are minors, is it still okay to serve (etc, etc)? I know if a parent/guardian is present, it's fine. But if young adults ranging from 18 and over come with their friends, but only one or two of them are 21 & order drinks, it just seems iffy to serve alcohol when there's a possibility the minors will sneak a few shots/sips. The restaurant I work at is an Asian restaurant that serves larger bottles of beer, soju, sake, and other drinks that aren't individual sizes - and separate glasses also need to be provided for the customers to pour their own drinks into. I'm not sure if anyone will fully understand my question, but if you do and you know the answer or know where I can find a reliable, credible source on where I can find more information - I'd greatly appreciate it. I've tried looking around, but I just can't seem to find any info pertaining to my specific question, especially for California.
