  • You might lose your job if you refused to plea bargin. Taking a case to trial is very expensive for the state so if the prosecutor can get a defendant to plead guilty the state saves a lot of money. It also reduces the case load of the prosecutor which is overwhelming. For that they are willing to offer an incentive (a reduced charge). It is far more of a business/economic decision than a "justice" decision.
  • 2-4-2017 Plea bargaining is the only reason the system still works. If every case had to go to trial, the system would be so badly bogged down that it would just stop working.
