You really do ask the tough questions. Now come here and let gtravels kiss the boo boo and make it feel all better;)

If it's falling off anyway I don't think you can prevent it. Hmm I'd clip it off near to where it's attached so you don't catch it or bend it back or anything, that would hurt. Why do you think it's falling off? Have you trapped it in something? x

You can fill it down or cut it off and replace it with an acrylic.

You can't prevent it. The ones that I've had fall off in the past didn't really hurt that bad. Play with it a little to loosen it and it might just fall off on its own.

just dont worry about it and it will evntually fall of

It will only fall off if it is broken at the back of the nail, under the skin (where it grows from). If it is still attached to skin in the front of the nail, it will begin to stink and could stay on for a while. I would recommend going to a doctor and they can remove it the rest of the way in the office. NOTE: I had my nail removed because I slammed it in a car door, it broke at the 'root' it began to stink and had to be removed. In the office he gave me 3 shots to numb my finger, but it didn't numb in time. He had to move on to other patients so he took his scissors and dug under my nail and cut the living skin off and removed the nail. It hurt a lot and on the way home it went numb. If the root isn't broken, it will continue to grow out. If you can wiggle it and you see movement under the cuticle there's a good chance it will fall off. I saved my nail, then lost it.

Go to the nail place that does your nail and have them take it off. They have that stuff they can spray on it to take the sting out, plus its easier if you hve someone else do it for you. I have acrylic nails and I got my finger stuck in a drawer and ripped my nail. Just don't have them put a nail back on if the whole nail is gone

if you have broken off a nail or it feels like its detached from the nail bed(like you can take it off easily) then go to a doctor. DON'T wait for it to come off and DON'T replace it with acrylic if it falls off. Go to a doctor immediately, because if you don't, your toe/finger could get infected and your nail may not grow back properly, causing serious problems later. If your nail plate can be removed, it needs to be treated by a doctor, not yourself. The treatment might hurt, but it will save your fingernail/toenail.

I know someone who injured a nail once, and it formed one of those blood pockets. He had to use a hot needle to pierce the nailbed, so it could bleed properly. I don't know why he didn't have a doctor lance it for him...he ended up not losing it. It just took awhile for it to grow out and look normal. If its wiggling on its own...it'll probaly fall out on its own.
