The literal translation is "Darkened Chamber". It's used to describe early projection devices. Otherwise, they may be singing about the Japanese myth of the camera capable of capturing ghosts. (long shot on that one.)

I've been to the camera obscura (I think that was the spelling) in Edinburgh Scotland. It's like a periscope that reflects light down to an inverted dome. It can be moved like a periscope, but it reflects images into the inverted dome so it makes an image. Really friggin cool! Any Scot brothers or sisters that can back me on this? (I'm not a Scot by birthright, but my wife and I were married there and Edinburgh is one of our favorite places. We climbed the cliff to the castle about 20 minutes after we were wed. And we made up our new last name in Scotland).
