  • Um no one ever assumes correctly with me. I am a girl... my avatar is a girl... everyone always thinks I am a boy. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/324989
  • I don't know. Probably because it's easier that way. But you know what they say if you assume. It makes an ass out of u and me. (Sorry love that hope no one was offended.) I don't know if people assume for me though. =o I think I normally give away that I'm female so they don't have to assume.
  • People SEVERAL times have thought I was a guy. Maybe my photos are boy-ish.
  • I don't know. I've been called a boy a couple of times. I am a girl. I guess it depends on what that person sees from my submissions. I change my avatar a lot so it's not always a girl.
  • Probably from the saying you get what you see.
  • Ahhhhh i see. I looked up your profile. Now i see why people think your female. Most AB's put thier own pictures on the avatars. It's normal that we would think thats you. So your from Forte Wayne? Why? I guess i'll have to read more about you. I've met alot of people from Africa, i worked for Notre Dame for a few yrs. I got to meet people from everywhere, I'm a people person. Nice to meet you.
  • Um...nobody has really ever made reference to my gender, but I can hope that my picture makes it clear whether I'm a female or male. If not then there's something I'm missing.
  • Uh ... because most people use their OWN photo to represent themselves?
  • People keep on guessing what my gender is, a few are bothered that I didn't even put my gender on my profile. Who really cares? As if we use our genitals to answer questions here. Why do people assume? Well, people are by nature ASSuming.
  • Because an avatar is supposed to be a representation of you.
  • Because your avatar is supposed to be an expression of yourself and a representation of you or some alter ego of yours. It's a normal tendency.
  • Because many people tend to use a picture of the same sex they are or of themselves. Doesn't apply to everyone and some don't have an avatar picture that allows a judgement at all.
  • Can't imagine.
  • Mostly because they associate different images with masculinity and femininity. If you see a flower avatar you're almost always going to picture the user as female. If you see a skull with blood pouring out of its eye sockets you'll probably assume the user is male. It all has to do with peoples' interpretations of the images they see. This can also be represented by a person's user name and even the way they type. I'm willing to bet that since I joined this site, people have seen my avatar (which is actually the old Civil Defense logo; not at all a common avatar to use in and of itself), my screen name, and the blatantly sarcastic, witty tone of my answers and thought right away that I'm a dude. They would be mistaken. I am actually female.
