  • Yes. If it was nessicary to live, I would. If I really, really hated it, I would. Basicaly, yeah, I'd burn one. I see no problem with it, so long as it is my property and nothing is damaged by the flames.
  • I don't think I ever have. If it's nothing that interests me, I just give it away. If what you're asking is related to censorship or protest against a title in particular my answer pretty much is the same. I can give my opinion about it and then let each person make their own mind.
  • Not unless I was running low on firewood and needed to to stay alive...
  • yep.if its presence in the world is a bad effect to me.
  • I have burned many books in my fireplace. They were ruined by a sewage spill we had in our house, and became very useful in cutting down on our heating bill.
  • Sure if I needed to; books aren't that rare or anything : P If it 'was' an extremely rare book (Like say, an original Gutenberg Bible) then I certainly wouldn't though...
  • If it were necessary for fuel to keep myself and my loved ones alive, then yes. Otherwise, I cherish my books more than my electronics, and that's a whole bunch.;)
  • Let's collect all of Ann Coulter's books and have a bonfire. Who wants to come?
  • I have in the past when the material didn't interest me. I once came into possesion of roughly three hundred old bibles from various community churches that were disposed of when the churches bought new stock. I have to say that they burned nicely, though if there is a hell I am most certainly going to visit there. If it's any consolation, I keep my leather bound reference bible, for reference purposes, on the shelf next to the Anarchist cookbook.
  • i definitely would if my staying alive counted on it or if i found a satanic book. I would burn it just so it couldn't get in the hands of an impressionable mind.
  • No. There are things to be learned from all books, good or bad. Knowledge is increasing our understanding of both truth and ignorance, and sometimes we can't even agree which is which. Look at the some of the titles that have been banned: http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/banned-books.html That being said, if it was cold outside and I needed to make a fire, and all that I had was a copy of Geri Halliwell's autobiography, I'd burn it (without too much worry that any secrets of the universe were lost in the process).
  • I must admit I have been tempted (joining the ranks of anyone who has ever read Tess of the D'Urbervilles or Ethan Frome). However, it seems like a waste of matches/lighter fluid/funky breath or other fire starting materials.
  • Absolutely! phone books, old books, random worthless books, crossword dictionaries, sudoku books, old notebooks. Any decent or reusable book I would either keep or give to someone else.
  • You question reminined me time of Hitler, when thousands of books were born.
  • If I was about to freeze to death possibly. If not I would recycle them if possible. I am thinking of useless books like old yellow pages. Real books I would give to someone else to enjoy. I would never burn a book because I disagreed with it. I am more likely to keep it as a reminder and/or ammunition (Mein Kampf a good example)
  • Yes. I would start with "It takes a Village". I do not like communist propoganda.
  • If I have to and it is a Math book, no problem....Math caused too much pain in my student years....
  • If it were a life or death situation or if it was a puzzle book, a phone book, a dictionary.. any of those sorts of books... But any other books............. NEVER!!! especially FANTASY Books :D
  • yeah. a book called the secret. i'd burn that. its sucks and its stupid.
  • Never! I refuse to destroy books, photos and CDs etc.
  • Sure, as a symbolic act of repudiation.
  • i would burn several erotic story books.
