When you were growing up did you have any teachers who had a reputation for getting physical when correcting students?

Yes. My art teacher pulled me by the hair really hard and it made my eyes water because he thought I had busted his clay sculpting tool. If I was at school these days, and the things happened now that did back in the early 80's some teachers would be struck off outright by a disciplinary hearing. I can think of 5 teachers who I would have good cases against if it happened in todays times.

Yes! My 8th grade English teacher would hit us with her pen. She had a "Boo-Hiss" Stick which was a yard stick decorated to look all pretty. I was never hit with it, but she did hit someone in my class so much that he fell out of his chair and huddled on the floor. Of course, she stopped hitting him once he hit the ground.

In grade five we had this alcoholic teacher who was notorious for smacking kids with his metre stick. He also had this one kid penned into a corner up behind a pair of dividers (called "the dungeon") and he would throw objects at the kid (usually tape rolls) when the kid annoyed him. Sometimes he hit him directly, and other times with a lucky ricochet.
