If this is the boot password, rather than the password for a windows account if you can gain access to the CMOS battery and take it out for a couple of hours it will reset to the default settings. If it's a windows account and you can't get in at all, boot up in safe mode and set up a new user account with administrator privileges in Control Panel... Users. Once you've got in you may need to set permissions for the new user account to gain access to the original account. Leave a comment and I'll tell you how.

You may need to reinstall Windows. There are hacker methods but they take time & patience. If you want to look into them then check this out: http://www.oxid.it/cain.html There are also companies that do stuff like this and charge hundreds of dollars for it. I honestly could probably recover it for you cheap but I doubt you're gonna mail your laptop to someone you don't know. :)

If you still have the original installation CD's (they came with the laptop) then you might be able to restart the system. All of your data on the hard drive will be erased however.

If you have xp, use the xp install disc, boot from it into install mode, press enter to install, f8 to agree, the press r to repair. Watch the installation, when it says 'installing devices' in the bottom left hand corner, press shift+f10 then when the command windows opens, type nusrmgr.msc then use the users window to select the user account and reset its password.

I don't know how much help this is, but couldn't you change it the same way he did? Just ask him how he changed it and do the same thing. P.S. Some people think it is rude to post questions all in caps. It looks like you are shouting, or you think your question should have more precedence than anyone else.
