Wheat. I grew up eating whole wheat bread almost exclusively, so refined grain has always been a bit too doughy and starchy for my tastes.

Wheat. I only eat white when it is being made into french toast. Wheat just has so much more flavour. It also comes in a variety of varieties, whereas white is white.

Brown - ALWAYS. None of that nutrition-free chlorine-bleached highly aerated tasteless flour foam for me or mine, the only exception being when I use chapatti from imported Indian flour, which is often yellow or cream colored. When buying ready-made bread, the labelling must specify "100% Whole Wheat" to offer better assurance that the whole berry is contained in the flour, which gives me the bran and the germ, both vital as a nutrient and for keeping the gut clean. Please note that I am not a nutritionist or dietary specialist, but these things are what I have read with confidence from numerous sources. If you have any evidence to the contrary please speak up and set me straight. Until somebody says something, I'll keep with these long held beliefs and try to stay alive.

White for cheese on toast, brown for fish or egg sandwiches. White is handier because it's easier to tell if it has started to go mouldy.
