  • Because cars that dont go very fast, dont sell. Consumers are idiots in that they want things they dont need. I <3 Consumerism.
  • 240km/h is "only" about 180mph, most big cars can get to that kind of speed. All german cars are now limited to 155mph unless they recieve a specific license from their government. But the spedo must, by law in most countries, represent the full speed scale the car is capable of going. If it can do 240km/h then the spedo must show that. Most manufactures cover their own back by making sure the spedo goes faster than the car does purely because if they set it to a max 150km/h but then the car crashes at 200km/h they will be liable! Also, in Germany and Portugal there are large sections of road which are not restricted by any speed limit.
  • because they want you to try to get the car going tht speeds but they cant
  • You need to visit Europe, rent a FAST car, and drive the Autobahn ... only a minimum speed limit ... NO MAX !!! 1. Speed sells ... 2. People like it when their possessions are "better" than the laws that control them. 3. It gives the owner a sense of power and control when he must hold back his car, knowing it could do much more than he is currently asking of it.
