Practise! Try it out a few times, the more you do it the better you get. Alcohol does help with the lack of confidance, but too much and you will make an idiot out of yourself! Good luck

I have found that you have to learn to act. It is never easy but the better you get at convincing others the better you convince yourself.

I'm a shy person as well especially at parties so once when I went to a party I decided to make an effort to say 3 things (a comment or a question) to each person in the room. It worked!

Oh boy... I used to hide when people came to the door in my home as a little guy... now I'm a therapist (although in administration now).... I took courses in personal development to learn how to swing out. I would also recommend a group where you can go out and share common interests (like a women's group in your area)... e-mail me anytime for other ideas :)

I am not just shy, but very very shy. At my age it can be embarrassing. Although my shyness is not as bad as it was. I still find it difficult to initiate conversations. I can't have long conversations because that’s too difficult. So I at least try to have small ones and build up from there. btw. its called social anxiety. :)

I used to be paralyzingly shy and self-conscious. Join groups which share your interests, or volunteer - when you have a topic to talk about it's easier than making small talk in a more social setting. It really helped me to realize that "Hey, I'm really pretty good at this and that", and that everybody seemed to like me.
