Paper shredder. You can get one cheap at office depot, staples, office max, etc.

I have a paper shredder, does the job rather nicely, and also provides material for storing/mailing breakable objects.

A good paper shredder is a great investment. It also makes getting the mail fun. Mine chops of CD's and Credit Card offer letters whole.
