  • Start by doing very simple changes. Once you see even small results it will help get you motivated to do things that require slightly more effort. Here are some examples: Park you car as far away from the door as you can and walk. Stop drinking soda (if you do) drink water instead. No calories and it hydrates better than soda. Take the stairs whenever possible. This is similar to the walking from a distant parking space, but is slightly more intense. As you start to feel more fit you can up the intensity. Good Luck!
  • I was the same way, but I recently got a job performing at a theatre for the summer that I'm really excited about. That's gotten me pumped and excited about getting in shape to look my best. Try finding something that you REALLY would like to be in shape for, maybe an event like a wedding or a class reunion, and work towards that date. If nothing like that is coming up, maybe try going out and picking out a bathing suit or dress that you're not necessarily happy with at the moment, but feel confident that you could eventually feel great in once you work on it for a few months, and buy it. Hang it up on the backside of a door so you can take a look at it once in a while and think about how great you're eventually going to look in it! Just make sure that along with this newfound motivation comes healthy exercising and dieting!
  • I teach a group fitness class. Its a lot of fun, you meet a lot of new people and it helps to stay motivated when you have people expecting you to show up every time!
  • I recommend you guys try out www.fitsetgo.com. It is a pretty good FREE fitness and nutrition related service. They offer quite a bit at no cost to the customer including assigning a real Trainer and Nutritionist for frequent users, not sure how they achieve this without charging but they do a great job of it.
  • do very small changes at first, and recruit someone to do it with you. make small, gradual changes in your diet - whole wheat instead of white flour, less sugar and fat, etc. keep a food diary. write down everything you eat and drink. this will make you aware of what you are consuming and if you are mindlessly eating. share this diary with someone who will get on your back for eating junk. this will only work if you are honest, though! go for 20 minute walks. find someone to walk and talk with you, or talk to someone on your cell phone, or listen to music. you could join a gym - paying the monthly membership is pretty good inspiration to go, and if you get a gym buddy it is more fun.
