Spanking them in general I think is wrong. You should never hurt your child.

In anger- because then you are only interested in getting your frustration out, and not on what is actually being done which is punishment. Also you CAN spank a child too hard. Also, resorting to ONLY spanking as a means of punishment. You need to PARENT your child and make them understand WHY what they did isn't okay. That way they will be less likely to do it again. Spanking should only be used as a last resort.

Of course. If you are spanking them at all, you are doing it wrong. Your question assumes that there is a right way to strike a child.

I think it depends on the age. Mu son is four I would never hit him with a belt or anything I just pop his fingers.
