I'd have to say so...

I would not say so.The two different armies had different styles of battle. The US forces knew the area for they lived there. There was way to many unseen circumstances that the British had not seen.So an underdog upset ,I don't see.

Well, what about Gandhi leading India to independence from England without even convening an army?

I think the Haitian revolt was probably an even bigger underdog upset. The French were the most powerful nation in the world and they were completely thrown out by a bunch of machete wielding slaves. I think that's pretty impressive.

Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson was the greatest upset in history, but the revolution was big no doubt.

We tend to forget that during the late 1700s and into the early 1800s (Remember the War of 1812) England was fighting France. Napoleon came around in the early 1800s. It is entirely possible that in the absence of Napoleon, England would have turned her enormous resources on the fledgling US and brought us under their control. Look what England did with the islands off the coast of Argentina. You don't kick a big country in the ass and expect it to simply turn the other cheek. England was busy elsewhere in the world and it was that situation as much as it was the determination and skills of the Continental Army that beat England and gave us the start we now enjoy.
