You won't hear many English professors agreeing with this one, but I beieve Reader's Digest is underappreciated. They collect some of the finest articles and bring them together for those of us who haven't the time to read or budget to subscribe to 80 different titles.

It is not a scholarly journal, but it brings reading to many people's lives, makes a wide variety of articles accessible, and is very entertaining and informative. I enjoy it and it sparks my curiosity often to read more on a given subject. Sometimes it oversimplifies, but for the most part, it does a good job of "digesting" large bodies of material and bringing them to the masses. And the jokes are second to none!

Yes, there are some articles that must be taken with a grain of salt but it's light reading and entertaining.
