  • Photoshop is tough to learn. It's quite complex, and in many ways doesn't really work like people expect if they've used other graphics applications. Certainly there are simple things one can learn quickly, but the advanced methods (like cleanly replacing Jodie's head with Pres. Bush) take time and practice and learning.
  • It may help to know what the position is that you're applying for. However, Photoshop is a very expensive photo editing program, about $700 retail. There are lots of photo editing programs out there that are either free or cost very little that will do basic photo manipulation; cropping, resizing, color/brightness/contrast adjustments, etc. If they're using Photoshop and requiring knowledge of it, it's probably for a reason and you may want reconsider applying for the position.
  • If you do anything with PhotoShop, you'll want to have the book "Photoshop CS Bible" by Deke McClelland. It describes pretty much anything anyone could think of to do with Photoshop. I recently got a copy of it for a Christmas present and it has accelerated my knowledge and skills incredibly in just this short time. PS is a great program; and I have enjoyed using it and learning more about it for the past several years. It is vast and I don't think anyone could know everything about it, but that's not necessary anyway. You can learn all you need to know to do what you need to do in a reasonable amount of time.
  • I've been using Photoshop for about 15 years now, and still don't know everything there is to know about it. I actually teach a PS class at a local community college, and based on the reactions of the students, it can be very difficult and overwhelming to learn it from scratch. The only way I know of to get a good handle on this software is to get a copy "somehow" (wink wink) and just start using it as much as possible. Any of the books other posters mentioned will be helpful as well, but hands-on familiarity is a must.
  • Unless you have worked in graphic design, and have worked in other graphic applications, I wouldn't suggest it. Is is very difficult. It took me years to learn it with a tutor.
  • I've got about 10 years working with PhotoShop. I love it. This is the thing: You can do SOMETHING with it almost right away, but to learn all of it (I haven't learned all of it - don't NEED all of it) would take a long time. I think you can master what you need to learn, in a reasonable amount of time. The other photo editing packages "out there" are mostly much simpler - but there's a lot that you can't do, with them. Get a book, as the other responders said. Good luck!!
  • If I do recall someone told me that there are full fledge College courses for photoshop. That to me does not sound easy.
  • Its a kool software. specially if you are creative. I am learning it at home. Not as easy as thought. I can just about do the basics with the book`photoshop for dummies'. try that out.
