Well Jesus had a bunch of personal attacks against him. He didn't acknowledge what they were saying but went deeper by telling a parable of their lives that sometimes only meant something to them.

There is no point in even getting into an argument about religion if the other person is set in only voicing their point of view and not in opening a door for you to easily walk through. In other words, if all they are interested in is pushing their beliefs on you then they don't have your best interests at heart and should be avoided. Save your religious discussions for those that really care about you and your life.
