The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the ability to procreate is held sacred. As such, it specifically does not condone any form of sexual activity that is practised outside of marriage and without one's spouse. Even within marriage, while the Church does not dictate what a couple should and shouldn't do in the bedroom, it does encourage couples to always view sexual activity as sacred and a way to show the highest degree of love to one another.

No, it does not. For example:

- What a load of crap. Who invented this idea that sperm have to be treated so religiously? Nothing in nature is like that; it's full of spreading seeds in great quantity.
  Masturbation has EVERYTHINg to recommend it and almost no negative sides. It releases tension, helps refocus the individual, helps a person understand how his/her system works so that when a person DOES have a partner, s/he can tell the partner what is pleasing, has NO VICTIMS, is harmless, develops imagination, and--most importantly--FEELS GOOD. Why any church has to invade this territory and make a lot of pronouncements is ridiculous. Besides, you think the people that write the kind DON'T masturbate?? The ol' line, "The lady doth protest too much" comes into play here. Anyone who's THAT adamant about not masturbating HAS to be the world's most addicted jack off artist.
  Why a God would care about this is incomprehensible, but then he doesn't appear to care that much about a lot, say, the Holocaust.

Actually, the talk referenced by Elder Packer mentions that nocturnal emissions are normal and nothing to be ashamed of.

  How, exactly, is ejaculating sacred?? Honestly, the issues around this topic are ludicrous.
  
  I guess I can sort of see viewing a life ( i.e., a fetus) as sacred, but shooting your sperm off into space or a towel or whatever is certainly not desecrating the lil guys. THEY don't care.

- Eyeeatpoopie, the Church has never taken any position on nocturnal emissions, and I doubt they ever will. There’s a *huge* difference between a natural process that occurs through no fault of the individual and an unnatural act that is deliberately performed by the individual.
  
  The Church banning nocturnal emissions because masturbation is a sin would be like the Church banning miscarriage because elective abortion is a sin. How ridiculous would that be?

Simply saying that men ought not to masturbate is typical of the unfortunately parsimonious attitude that is too much part of church culture. It obvious to any thinking and dispassionate observer that the Creator gives instructions to his children for their well-being and safety.
A man's semen is his essence. To 'spill his seed on the ground' as it were, robs him of his strength physically, mentally and prevents that thing that connects us to our Heavenly Father. As such it detracts from the man's feeling of connectedness i.e. having the spirit with us, self esteem, confidence and physical groundedness. It literally robs the body of its energy and it essential life force. That's why it is forbidden; not so much that it is "bad", per se, but it is deleterious to the mind, body & spirit.

- Any scientific studies to show that masturbation is bad for you physically? I can see it is bad for a person if they feel very guilty about it and are depressed because they can't stop (but is it really right for religions to make young people feel guilty about masturbating? - What an astonishing response from Robin Catton. Has she ever talked to a man about masturbation?? "robs him of his strength"?? WTF?? It does just the opposite. She has no understanding of men whatsoever.
  Further, where is it "forbidden" to masturbate? Surely you're not going to pull out a 4000-yr old story from the Old Testament, esp the one about Onan. Why would you even consider that as an authority? Do you also subscribe to the other rules in the O.T.? LIke killing disobedient children? Get a clue, and don't believe ANY church teachings on this topic.
