After being in the workforce for the past 14yrs, I made a mistake and now have a felony on my record. I will be placed on house-arrest soon, one of the stipulations is to maintain a job.(HA-HA!!) Since finding one has been so hard, I returned to school to get my Bachelor's Degree. I have really been considering starting a placement agency for felons. It was just an idea, until reading this post. I want to thank each of you because of your post, I now see how great the need is for such a service. Many companies offer ex-felons jobs, but what about those of us that are on probation, house-arrest, or records are not 7 years or more old. We all deserve to make a decent living, as we have families and children like the rest of society. Let's see if I can get goverment funding for my new business.:-)
I have been reading various comments about ex-felons and offeners. I don't understand how people can move forward in their lives, if the system continues to block out individuals. In my opinion, this is one of the reason there are repeat offeners. I have started to write our congress, governer, sentors and even the president, because of my dissapointmemt with society and my personal interes. My son has been in prison for 12 years and he is looking forward in coming out in 2 more years, but to what? I was always told if you don't like something, change it! I think if enought people band together and let our socity know this is creating another class of people, maybe just maybe someone will care enough to answer the call. Until then, keep pushing forward, don't give up because all things are possible. Don't forget to pray, God answers prayer.
State unemployment agencies offer help but oftentimes they are for VERY LOW paying wages & very menial jobs - It's a problem especially when you have aquired many valuable skills but you cannot get a job that pays you what you deserve because of your past mistake(s). Siting my own experiences, I have been given some terrific offers only to have them recinded once the part about a background check comes into play...It does not matter that I am upfront and honest - it does not matter that I am a participant in the State Federal Bonding program which offers insurance for at risk employees like myself to employers free of charge for six months...People cannot look beyond that fact that people do make mistakes...Still I struggle to move forward, to continue to try and pray for an angel out there who doesn't care I made mistakes in the past but recognizes where my heart and head is now - that I AM of great value, I am a dedicated and hard worker who would make a significant contribution to the value of an organization...
Good luck to you as you travel the hard road I have been on for so very long now....
To all Ex-Felons and Ex-offenders trying to gain employment, housing and/or drug abuse assistance in the New York City area, go to "THE DOE FUND" website.
State Unemployment office often has someone with assistance and expertise in this field. Also check with your local Vocational rehabilitation offices.
Kelly Services, Dawson, and Snyder Blake only go back seven years on back ground checks. Hope this helps someone. Good luck!
I'm writing a letter to the president. I am a first time offender that is not elgible for expungement. If you are unable to get expungement through the system with good reasoning behind the conviction the president can offer something called a pardon
what are sum employment agency or temp services that hire ex-felons its hard to find a temp agency that does because everyone does the background check
Look, Fact is we felons are doomed..I called a tree cutting service that was looking for a "groundman"..They would not hire me because of my Felonies..I served six years in Prison and I have been on parole now for 3 years NO Problems..Can't catch a break in the workforce...I even invested time recently by going to HVAC School..Obtained my Universal Certification and 410 A.. No one will hire me..

I am a newly released male age 29 from Northern Indiana. My criminal record is pretty lengthy and unapealing to say the least. Here in Indiana, I have been trying to find a job for several months now, with no such luck. Last week i went to a place we have here called Manpower, which is a employment placement agency. While filling out the application i came across where it asked if i was a felon. Knowing that if i put yes right then it would not give me a chance to explain my conviction(s). I left that part empty hoping that they would not see or atleast they would ask me about it. When i took it up to the desk she did infact see that that answer was blank . I let her know that yes i was a felon and gave her my charging information and disposition. After i explained that my offense was not violent in nature i asked her if my felony would disclude me from working for them. Her reply was "not for all companies but for quite a few, do ask that we don't give them ex felons to employ. With this statement i said that i understood. While scrolling down further, she noticed that my recent employment only goes back for a couple of months. She then asked me if i had any good solid job background with atleast 1 to 2 years experience. My problem is that i just was released back on January 6,2010. This would not give me a chance at having that much time on the job. The lady then said i could not be employed by their company. I then asked her if she would hire me if i had just turned 18 and never had held a job due to schooling...she said no
I left the office by saying " Mam i know that i have what it takes to become an asset to your company but yet you denied me. I then said " Mam, This is why America has such a high recidivism rate, companies like yours that don't beleive in second chances". What could i have done differently? I don't think there was anything
I honestly find this post kind of funny. The reson being is that I have two felonies on my record. At the time of my choice of actions during those crimes, I was using drugs and alcohol. I was living a fantasy life of lies and thought that i was a big shot, instead I just ended up blowing my money away and loosing everything. I now have two months sober and I've learned to accept the things i cannot change. I committed those crimes, I knew what i was doing, and that what i was doing was wrong, not a mistake. I dont know how people can say they made "mistakes" when they knew they were inthe wrong. Learn to live with yourselves honestly, accept the things you can't change, and pray and leave it up to your higher power to help get it of your chest. My recomendation for a job would be to go to your nearest temp agency, where you will get hired on doing grunt work. If you work hard enough, they will remove you off of the temp payroll, and put you on their own thus now you having a permanent job. The next step is continuing to work had, and take on-site training to eventually get a promotion. Keep continuing to do so and you'll work your way up but its not easy, the promotions bring better pay, but a much more complicated job. Its even better to take classes for trades, vocationals, etc. so you can have the training for a better job and the proof you can do the work.
