  • if they bring it up they are ready to talk about it. otherwise i would say if you encounter a situation, like a gay couple comes over for dinner, you could discuss it in as much detail as you think they need at the time.

  • I would think that the proper time is when the child starts asking questions. Sooner or later s/he is going to. S/he is going to hear about homosexuality and other non-standard relationships at school or encounter a homosexual couple somewhere. Maybe seeing a couple holding hands or the like. The child might be homosexual or bisexual him or herself. If s/he does not fear to ask his/her parents about this, most certainly the child shall. I would think that if the parents are not open-minded and have shown homophobia to the child, the child is not going to ask the questions.
