1984. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the actions of the government certainly here in the UK have me feeling that we are sliding slowly to an Orwellian society. I hope it never gets that far.

1984. Why? Illegal wiretaps. The Vice President (and now the President) says that his office is not part of the Executive Branch of the government. Jailing two decorated border security agents for shooting a known drug dealer in the ass...and paying that drug dealer $5 million. Essetially telling us that war is peace. I'm getting down off my soap box now and going home. I'm going to tickle my daughter and swing my little one around in a big circle and forget that we, as a country are heading down a tunnel that I'm not sure we'll ever find our way out of. 'nuff said.

I agree with 1984..we are already more than halfway there! i also think the stand by stephen king...with the way medical science (the field i work in) pumps drugs into people its no huge stretch to imagine a killer, mutated virus coming along and wiping us all out.

I forget the name of the book. I read it back in 1967, when I was in elementary school. It is a story of a teraforming engineer in charge of an atmosphere building machine in a Martian colony. Most of the technology was already available in the 60's ... now all we need is a way to transport the basic equipment and a crew to Mars to get started.

Left Behind. It's a 12+-book series in which people live through the Rapture of Christ's church, and are left behind to deal with unfathomable hardship and the world going completely, quite literally, to Hell. (More specifically, Satan's 7 year rule on Earth before Jesus comes back to reign for 1000 years) Our world is spiralling into sexual immorality, greed, warfare, and sin. Here are a few things that will happen to signal the Rapture is coming: -Different currencies around the world will consolidate into few globally used currencies -A nigh unknown politician will arise, promising peace and unity in the world and capturing the hearts of millions, only looking to rule the world (this is Antichrist/Satan, and no, it's not Bush! At least, I don't think it is. Wouldn't you figure Satan would get a better-looking, smarter, and younger guy to be his embodiment? LOL! ...please don't downrate me :'C) And more prophecies to watch out for! If millions, BILLIONS of people vanish off the face of the earth simultaneously and you find yourself being one of the people left behind, I feel for you, because it's gonna be rough during that next seven years. I really do believe these events will come true, and I sure as heck hope it does in my lifetime. I'm confident I won't be here when all of that turmoil comes down on earth to punish the sinful and corrupt. The world sure does need its leader back.
