You shouldn't downrate people just because you dont agree with their opinions. You should downrate them if their question is offensive...and really thats it.

I think the deal is that if you don't sgree why not leave a reason. How hard would it be to say,"you are so off based on your fact...". Maybe you have a different view of down rating. I think most people (at least that would be the only reason I downrate)down rate b/c the answer is so rude or off based that it merits a downrate. If it is just an opposing opinion, aren't we all allowed to view the world differently? It is what makes us all individuals.

Agree with Jaxquelyn. People are only voicing their opinions. Downrating is really for un helpful answers rather then an answer you dont agree with. (eg whats your favourite band - Queen! - 20 points you go!) People should at least have the decency ( i know i cant spell) to comment on why they downrated.

This is something not everyone agrees about. I think most users feel that to downrate without leaving a comment is cowardly and disrespectful: it's sort of a "hit-and-run" tactic, and most users consider it to be a "troll behavior". But other users feel that this is a perfectly legitimate thing to do, and don't want to expose themselves to "retribution" by identifying themselves with a comment, or just don't want to be bothered commenting. My own feeling is that downrating is a kind of communication, and it's better to identify yourself because it encourages people to deliver this communication in an responsible way -- i.e. try to say something helpful in the comment. Otherwise, you're likely to upset someone without giving them any useful feedback to go with the upset.

It can be annoying being downrated for seemingly no reason. I suggest The Very Hungry Caterpiller book as a good book for young children and it was downrated. I could understand if I was recommending a graphic thriller :p

Who downrated me...minus 3...are you crazy....what the heck...you got to be out of your mind ...you coward. lol but honestly I can careless if someone downrates me...at leat it show that somebody listening...and yeah I really did get downrated -3...lol

I got -5 on an answer I said "might" be right, I was the first to answer. Then five other people answered the question and I ended up with -5.

I down-rate all the time. I always try to leave a comment and explain myself, but some people can't even handle that. People throw the word troll around all the time but that makes no sense... I leave comments and they still say troll? ...Then the ATC comes along and up-rates to "correct the wrong I have done to that user." (-:

I angered another user, and, immediately afterwards, had over 25 of my answers downrated, one after another, with no comments. You are not going to convince me that the user I angered was not being petty. Things like that are worth getting angry about, if you are the type to get angry. I may leave a snide comment if I do not know who did it, but in that particular case, I KNEW. I thought it was funny.
