No, I think they use profane words to express themselves better and to incorporate a shock factor into whatever message they are trying to get across.
-
Not necessarily. I use profanity because I am very passionate about what I am talking about. I have a pretty decent vocabulary too.
-
I'd say so yes, I totally agree with you, but having said that, swearing is a way to show your positive/negative passion about something, so it would be used a small amount in the language anyway. People who swear a lot though seem to get into the habit of using the words a lot maybe from over exposure to them, or trying to sound cool, and they just flow from their mouths like any other words and so lose their effectiveness in expressing strong emotions, and just become part of the rabble contributing to an apparantly limited vocabulary. Although you can argue it like that though, their vocabulary in no doubt limited as if it was vast then they'd know of words that are more appropriate, emotive and personal than swear words to express their feelings. so yeh... when people swear too much sometimes they're just in the habit of swearing a lot, but mostly, yes their vocab is sh*t = D x

I don't think it makes them look smarter! It makes them look less in control. I imagine the frustration level is pretty high so I just try to listen behind the words.
-
They are merely a colourful form of self-fcuking-expression, sh1t....
-
Just as with anything, the more you use it, the less effective it becomes. So if someone is always using profanity, it's probably not for effect, it might just be how they express themselves. I find it kind of boring after awhile.
-
No, I think it's more about the mood or their feelings on a particular subject. If I say I had a bad day to my friends she'd say oh I'm sorry, now if I say I had a really bad f*ckin' day, she'd say oh what happened, or I'll be over in a few....Gets a point across quicker.

I think it shows lack of self-control as much as a limited vocabulary. We missed a plane the other day along with two other people. One, a well-dressed businessman, unloaded an earful of profanity to me when I tried to talk to him. He wasn't being rude to me. He must have thought I'd agree with his language (I didn't think it was necessary at all). But I wonder how he handles stressful situations at work.
-
I think people that use profane words use them because the are under some emotional stress.
-
The...uh...I...uh...I mean...ah sh*t.
-
That's full of sh*t, man! I dont have limited vocabulary.
-
Clearly you have never watched DEADWOOD! Some of the most articulate dialogue in recent memory, yet totally obscene. Ha! I love it.
-
my language changes with the clothes i wear, if i am in my work clothes, i NEVER cuss... if i am in casual off work clothes, only sometime, if i am in a battle dress uniform, sometimes i can say an entire sentence of nothing but cuss words...
-
Not neccessarily, but that does seem to be the stereotype. I find that I am able to adjust my vocabulary to my given situation. However, sometimes after holding things in for so long I just have to vent. Alcohol tends to loosen my tongue a bit as well.

No i think they are extremely intelligent. People use the words mostly as a way to releave stress. And to me that's extremely intelligent. Some use the N word usually have a limited vocabulary because they're hicks lol. But usually its not that they don't have a large vocabulary, its more that they like to use those words more lol.
