Here is a picture of the thing so you know this is not a joke question.

That is a pretty good way to transmit germs... but no worse than door handles, telephones... sorry he keeps getting sick. Maybe he should try anti bacterial wash after he touches the scanner... who knows the last time that things was cleaned!

It's a great way to transmit germs, but unless he's in the habit of eating immediately afterwards without washing his hands, it's probably not the sole cause of his sicknesses. Try giving him antibacterial waterless hand wash to use after visiting public areas, and before eating if he can't wash his hands.

If your husband is constantly getting sick then that's the real issue and you do need to find out why. The hand scanner is not likely to be it, it's more xenophobicly scary than dangerous, but he could try using hand sanitizer a lot to see if that helps. It is a serious issue if something is making him sick often and you two must find out what. The question begins with the symptoms. Are they the same or various?

Purell has a small pocket-size hand sanitizer that should work just fine for your husband. Carry it in his pants or shirt pocket. each time he uses the i.d. scanner, reach in his pocket and squirt a little on his hands. it dries instantly and it works. I use a bottle a week.

I'm sure it is! Where I work they have hand sanitizer right next to the time clock though!
