  • By doing it with them. Choose exersises that are fun and dont seem like excersise like going on a bike ride or a trip to the pool.
  • Make it fun! Put on some kiddy-tunes and dance around the house, go for a bike ride, play some kind of sport with them, or take them to the beach.
  • Get an exercise trampoline and stick a bag of sweets to the ceiling! Worked for me !
  • Set an example. If your kids see you being active, then they're going to want to get involved. Take walks as a family, bike rides, play games of tag with the kids, etc. They'll be so happy to have quality time with mom and dad that they won't even realize they're exercising =) You could also get them involved in sports, gymnastics, swim team, or sign them up for a summer fitness camp.
  • This is a question I have asked myself before the best answer I have came up with is turn on some music. Sometimes you can find CDs for kids were the song tells you what kind of movements to do. My daughter loves them. Do them along with your child we learn from seeing other people do things plus thats motivation.
  • Try the, "twinkie on a stick" method.
  • Either have fun or show them pictures of fat people.
  • Whatever tactic you use, you have to set an example for them by also doing it some yourself. Exercise is fun naturally, and if they're presented with the proper examples and oppurtunities to learn that, children will usually form good exercise habits on their own. What you want to avoid at all costs is making exercise "Work" for them, firm routines of push-ups, sit-ups, weigth training, etc are fine for adults, who usually have the disipline to stick with difficult and unpleasant tasks, but pushing a child into something like that is likely to completely ruin exercise for them for the whole rest of their life. Go outside with them and play a game, take a bicycle ride, take them swimming, etc. Spend time together with them as a parent, doing active things that they enjoy. Help them learn that exercise isn't work or something that you're obligated to do, but simply something that you do because it's fun and makes you feel good.
  • Go with them, bring them to a park. It's not like a dog where you can just play fetch. Lead by example.
  • Make it fun for them. Don't make it a chore. It also helps if you go out there with them.
