  • In most Baptist Churches, the answer is yes. For full voting membership you have to be saved and Baptised in a Baptist Church. You also have to be voted in by the congregation, which is very simple, the Pastor will introduce you, then tell people about your salvation testimony, and ask for a vote. "All in favor of accepting Mr or Mrs. X into our fellowship say Amen." There are two reasons that you would not be voted in. One is if you are not saved, the other is you having some public sin wwhich would damage the congregation's reputation, as in owning a bar, or being involved with prostitution. Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness! Salvation is accepting the free gift which is offered by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is acknowlegement that You are a sinner, that you believe He died to pay for your sins, and that He rose again three days later. If you believe these things in your heart, and pray to Jesus asking Him into your heart, and to save your soul from Hell, then you are saved.
  • In theory, yes. In reality, prospective members must present a persuasive case that they are saved to become members. Most Baptist Churches have lots of members who are not really 'saved' but did provide a credible testimony that was accepted by the church. Most of us are not gifted to see the soul of a person in such a way to 'know,' and Baptists don't generally judge that way.
  • I dont understand the act of being voted in by the members of the church when in Acts 2:47, it speaks of those who heard the gospel, believed, repented, confessed Christ Jesus, and was baptized were added to the Lord's church daily. Everyone has some sort of reputation, but in Christ's eyes, it no longer matters because that is what he died for.
  • One must profess to be saved. We take people's word for it.
  • No disrespect to *any* church, but. . . It is necessary for them to *believe* you are saved, usually.
  • A good Baptist church will interview you and check that your confession of faith is biblical and that you fit in witrh the theological ethos of the group before you can join.
  • Yes and no. It depends on what kind of Baptists you're talking about. Generally, if they actually go by the Bible, yes. Others, maybe, maybe not. Frankly, baptists are so fragmented it's hard to tell what they really believe anymore... I'm saved, and I don't believe in belonging to a denomination, but I also don't believe that you're going to hell if you belong to one.
  • Being saved is accepting the Lord into your heart and knowing that his son died on the cross for your sins (Romans 10:9). Having to be saved to become a member of ANY church is like having to be rich in order to get a job. Why would anyone bother? So many churches have lost touch to what their true purpose is. High ceilings, Polished pews, and brass tithing trays is what churches have come to nothing more nothing less. My God - the one I have a personal one on one relationship with doesn't want anything more than to be believed and trusted. He doesn't need our money he needs obedience. He doesn't want his people stressed he wants them to lean on him for everything. As soon as the churches stop their creative begging they too will find out how much God has in store for them. Sorry that I drove off track with this.
  • I guess you could lie but I dont think that would be a good idea
