There was a mathematical question earlier given three answers. People downrated one answer which told how to find the answer but did not do it. Uprated one which looked smart but gave an obviously incorrect answer, and ignored a third, correct one. Why?

Who knows what goes through people's minds when they rate. We can assume that either people just do not know and goes with the answer the sounds good, or they are playing favorites.
