  • Hamsters are Vegitarians so adding a tomato to the cage is nt letahl. but sudden changes in food will usually cause them some distress. Best to stay with the tried and true hamster mixes from the store.
  • Yes, actually, hamsters _can_ eat tomatoes. However, give them very small (and I do mean *very* small) pieces to start with, since tomatoes are acidic and can upset their tummies if they aren't used to it. Supplementing your hamster's diet with fresh veg is good for it, but introduce things slowly so that it doesn't get the runs. Incidentally, Red John is right; hamsters are omnivorous, and will happily eat just about anything. However, junk food is just as bad for them as it is for humans, and like most animals they can't handle chocolate or anything with caffeine (the "chocolate drops" they sell for small animals are not made with cocoa), so you can't simply feed them on a human diet. However, you can supplement their hamster mix with small bits of bread, cheese, or chicken, too. Same rule applies: introduce any new foods in small pieces, slowly.
  • Yes they can eat tomatoes just dont give them too much or they will get diarrhea.
  • I would also add that without access to sunlight, sources such as egg, cheese and fish will provide your hamster with vitamin d. Again, small pieces are all you need, but when feeding with cheese, make sure it is sheeps or goats cheese. This is due to cows processing their milk through multiple stomachs making it harder for single stomached animals (us included!) to process the same milk.
  • Yeah, but I'd recomend dried tomatos, otherwise they'll probably make a mess in thier cage.
