  • i don't think it's a very germy surface to begin with. if it goes from the factory, into the machine, into your hand, there's probably very little human contact with it other than you. Everything is mechanized now anyway
  • The unwashed top of a soda can may or may not be a little dirty, but its surface isn't a really hospitable incubator for germs. Even so, our bodies can deal with the intake of all kinds of bacteria and germs without falling ill.
  • If they come in a 12 pack form the grocer I do not worry, but if they come out of a soda machine or I know that they have definitley been handled I always clean them off with antibacterial wipes. That may be a little over the top but I would rather be safe than sorry.
  • Cold, hard surfaces don't hold bacteria very long, and the metal probably acts as somewhat of an antibacterializer.
  • A guy I used to work with who lived in Mexico City as a teenager said that you always had to wipe off the cans there or risk swallowing teensy worm eggs or something, and it was better to pour it into a glass.
  • Luck, pure luck. In my opinion, it's like playing Russian Roulette with each can and with each drink from a can!
  • Not a good idea.
  • I think the affect off germs is overated in a way. I dont worry about the bacteria on cans.. I eat unwashed fruit.. hell sometimes eat things that have fallen off my plate!(depending how visibly dirty) And I rarely get ill. I feel the body uses these germs positively to boost immunity.
  • I don't know..I do wash the tops of the cans myself :)
  • over 90% of germs are not harmful at all to humans, and most germs you on a pop can are immediately destroyed from the acidic contents of the stomach, so the chances of getting sick is pretty slim. plus, by the time you do get sick, it'd be days later and you'd blame it on the weather or something, is this a good answer? cuz i want da pointz :) i played WoW i'm sorry lol
  • The same reason you wouldn't get sick if you licked a wall, a piece of paper, the table. Most germs aren't pathogenic. However, if you from ate off an unwashed plate after a two week old raw piece of chicken had been sitting on it, that may be a different story.
  • Most germs aren't harmful but I wouldn't be so quick to declare can lids as safe. Have you ever seen critters scurrying in a warehouse? Do you think it never happens in storage?
