  • Does this Dell not have a 2nd partition that has the Windows installation files on it? It might show up under "My Computer" as the D: drive, and be named Dell or something like that. If there is a 2nd partition, you should be able to reinstall XP (not repair). There are several options that are much easier than the above, but most of them do require a floppy drive and a blank floppy disk. You can probably get a USB floppy drive for $10 or $20, although I'm not sure if a USB floppy would do you much good if you can't at least login on at least one account (even if it's the guest account). Some of those fixes are discussed at the link below: http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
  • You don't need any passwords. Run a command prompt (Start menu -> run -> CMD )to get into command line - you can also find this in the accessories - system tools group from the start menu. Type the following command: net user administrator password You should get back: The command completed successfully. Congratulations, you just changed administrator's password to "password" - note that you can do this for ANY profile, in any profile, so if for example my profile name in XP was "wildcat" then I could change my password with "net user wildcat password" - note also that the password can be anything you want, it doesn't have to be the word "password" Another example of how insecure XP is, that it doesn't ask for password confirmation before changing things.
