  • I'm not from either of those places, but my city has a bylaw mandating full-serve (too many people can't pump their own gas...) I consider any tips to be included in the sky-high price of fuel. I've never seen anyone tip the gas man.
  • I am from Portland. No, I have never seen anyone tip and have never tipped myself. Interesting though, cause they usually work harder than servers at restaurants! ;)
  • I'm a 23 year old gas attendant in NJ. I get tipped very often. I also tip gas attendants when I fill up at other stations. It's nice that people appreciate what I do because I put up with a lot of inconsiderate, rude people and nasty weather. And geek860, tips are not included in the sky-high gas prices. That all goes to the gas companies. Anyways, a lot of people don't know this, but my boss, the owner of the garage/gas station i work, makes 10 cents for every gallon sold. So the higher the gas, the less gallons pumped, the less money my boss makes; the oil companies also set the prices, not the stations. The only people who benefit from high gas costs are the oil companies. Be kind to your gas attendants. They put up with a lot of bullshit.
  • For New Jerseyians, it's not custmary to tip the gas attendant. Matter of fact they may look at you funny, not unless they're desperate for finance and I'm sure with the price of the gas, their getting their fair share. I was born and raised in New Jersey, now I live in North Carolina, I had to get used to pumping my own gas! Although, down here, especially in the "hood" there are some hustler/jobless ones who may offer to pump the gas for a minor fee.
  • Im from jersey and if you go to the same station all the time and see the same people I would tip them nicely during christmas!
  • I don't think it is customary but if you wish to tip, I am sure it would be appreciated. If it's bitterly cold or rainy and you are happy you didn't have to exit your vehicle to pump your own gas, throwing a buck to the guy might buy him a cheap cup of coffee to warm up. Back when I was a kid, the attendant would offer to check your oil, tire pressure or even washing your front and rear window. With the way things are now, they just don't have the time or desire to do it.
  • No, at least not in NJ
  • Yes always tip your gas attendant they will take good care of you, wash windows, check tire pressure, check oil at least in oregon
  • I've filled up (well, the gas attendant did) a few times in Oregon. After my last fill-up down there a friend told me that I should have tipped the attendant. I probably will the next time I head down to Oregon.
  • if you tip we will take care of you, i work at a gas station in Oregon and i know my regulars who tip they always get windows washed and are in and out, i also remember the rude customers who ask for windows washed then don't tip or bitch to me about prices they will be waiting...and waiting...so heres a tip,TIP your attendant and you will be taken care of
  • I’m originally from New Jersey and to be honest, it never even occurred to me. Having worked for tips in the past, myself, maybe it should have!
