How difficult is it to get a key for a padlock that is in the unlocked position? It is a "Best" padlock and it's left unlocked many days but when it's not I have to climb a fence to run at the track that I use.

Best is probably a generic brand, I would buy a new lock and replace it with the spare key intact for the person who locks the gate, or better yet, get a combination lock.

Not difficult at all! (I was a locksmith for a few years.) Actually, Best is considered a very good lock. They manufacture a wide variety of high security products from their factory in Indianapolis, Indiana. You can take the lock to your local locksmith and he can either cut a key by code or "impression" a key if the code is not available.
