Yeah that's definitely true, Jodie. Great question. I find the most difficult person to love sometimes, is also the person I MOST need to love,and it's myself.

That's an interesting point. I think the hardest people to love are people who seem to be permanently angry and isolated: having rejected everyone and withdrawn into their own deep cave of pain and anger, they cover themselves over with layers of cynicism and indifference or bitterness and hostility, making themselves as unlovable as possible. Love is actually a serious threat to such a person's identity... if someone loves them, it invalidates the need for all that self-protection -- intimating that the carefully constructed fortress is a monument to fear (which is actually the case, of course). That's really the key to the puzzle, too: fear is the remainder of love divided by ignorance -- the sad math of a soul who can't touch the infinite because they can't find themselves, and can't imagine that anyone else would help them search.
